VOLUNTEER in India
Tick Volunteering abroad off your bucket list, it is one of the most worthwhile things you can ever do.
Everyone has different skills to offer and everyone is welcome to volunteer. Volunteering and living with an Indian host family is a fantastic opportunity to gain first-hand experience and insight into life in India.
Learn from local staff and get involved in supporting them.
Our projects include free, or highly subsidised, healthcare, education and Empowerment projects to local people from slum and rural communities. If you have specialty skills, a passion for certain issues or are interested in particular activities that would benefit this small community be sure to let us know. We will always accommodate your skills and there may even be opportunities to create a project of your very own!
Health Care Volunteers may be placed at the following projects
Accident & Emergency, Anaesthetics, Dentistry, General Surgery, Maternity & Midwifery, Nursing, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Occupational Therapy, Ophthalmology, Paediatrics, Pathology, Physiotherapy, Ultrasound.
Teaching Volunteers may be placed at the following projects
Teaching classes K-Year 6 Maths, English and Arts, Music, Sewing, Dance, Sport
Please note that these areas may be one-off placements. We cannot guarantee the time period in which a volunteer spends in one department. It may be the case, for example, that a volunteer shadows in A&E for one evening only.
As a volunteering NGO, NOT a volunteering company 100% of all donations reach these projects
Due to a lack of health education and access to medical facilities health care can be difficult to access in the slum areas of the Faridabad. This has always been a long standing problem in the area so in 2010 SCIP created a healthcare clinic consisting of a Pharmacy, a Gynaecology clinic and General Practitioner. We currently have one male and one female doctor based at the healthcare clinics. These clinics are the main point of access for the local community, and sees anywhere from 40 to 50 patients daily.
Volunteers will support the pharmacy dispensary and supporting the doctors in carrying out observations, vital signs, wound care, administering nebulisers and injections, testing urine and blood and pregnancy testing (depending on your Universities Policies). Although the interactions with patients will be in Hindi, the doctors speak English and will explain everything to you in English.
The Clinic is a wonderful experience for nursing and first year medical students as well as all other health care workers but is also available for volunteers who have little or no medical experience. The doctors will act as your mentor, explaining cases to you and answering any questions you might have.
The School situated in the Slum of Faridabad was opened in 2008 and teaches over 150 children. There is 7 classes divided into K-Year 6 all of which have their own teacher. Volunteers will have the opportunity to act as a teachers assistant to a class room of children, sitting among the children and attending to their questions with the lessons that are taught in English. Most of the older children English is very good and you will not need a translator. There will be many opportunity to engage with the children, assistantships with lessons and homework questions participate in the assembly activities, teach art and craft lessons, dance and sport.

Please note that, in line with our policy, no member’s or volunteer’s flights or expenses are paid for by SCIP, as all donations go solely to aid our projects
"Volunteering with SCIP inc was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. It was amazing to feel like you've been able to make a difference to somebody's life and been able to help them, even if it's in a small way."
"If you are considering volunteering, I would recommend volunteering with SCIP inc, they will look after you and provide you with a positive, life changing, amazing experience! One person may be unable to change the whole world, and end poverty, but to make a difference to even one persons life, is definitely worthwhile :-)"
